Kyle Platts: London illustrator studio visit

Kyle Platts is a freelance artist and illustrator based in London. I spent the afternoon with Kyle at his home studio in Peckham. He is influenced by anthropology, hot rods, nature, bad skin and psychedelia (although he does not smoke weed). He mostly works with fine nib Rotring pens, but also enjoys using pencils, paint and computers (illustrator, photoshop and whatnot). I’ve been a fan of Kyle’s work for a while, I really enjoy his take on modern city life, through humor and in the medium of comics. Kyle has been commissioned by many companies for his engaging imagery and story telling. Just a few of the clientele include: Converse, The New York Times, MTV, Lazy Oaf and many more. Kyle’s comics have always made me literally laugh out loud, for example the image below ‘I’m Smoking For Two Now’. I loved looking through Kyle’s sketchbooks when I visited his studio, it was exciting to see the work process. Photos of Kyle’s sketchbooks are featured below. Hetty Douglas: London Painter

In my opinion, Hetty Douglas is one of the most interesting painters in London right now. Her work consists of bright bold colors, in an abstract expressionist style. Occasionally her work includes provocative text such as “sorry for treating you like shit & 4 fingering your best m8”.

LAST NIGHT ON EARTH

The festival celebrates a night of never-ending rock ‘n’ roll, with a line-up other festivals can only dream of. BANNED IN DC BOOK SIGNING AT SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS

Last Saturday Jonny Furlong & I checked out the “Banned in DC” book signing and talk with Cynthia Connolly, an LA native who brought the visionary aesthetic and perspective that punk was in fact an art and merged it to the DC scene, where Punk music was not considered a true genre during the 80s. “What existed in LA did not exist in DC, and what DC had, LA did not,” she states during her book signing.

Califaztlan Love

Luscious green trees, textured stone steps and huge glass doors surrounded my peripheral vision. Echoing voices, and Tourists with crew neck sweaters tied around waists were seen from miles away. A few weeks ago I finally visited the Getty Center in L.A. The visual stimulation was worth the drive, with numerous buildings filled with priceless Art.

PARIS PART 3

Finally it was not dumping rain on us today and we made some good progress working on the 3rd mural which I’ll post up after this once we finish tomorrow. Heres a good look at the past few days working on the Delicate Balance mural and since we had to deal with so much rain and delays, we for once actually got to do some touristy stuff and checked out the Louvre. OBEY IN PARIS Part -1

Myself, Shepard and the OBEY GIANT crew jump on the jet and now are in Paris. I’m going to get right to it and attempt to be somewhat of a photo journalist and post up our travel as it goes.
